Education.com Expands Scholarship Program and Announces Winners

The online education destination adds two new award opportunities for aspiring teachers, grants scholarships to Sosseh Didarloo, John Guzman, and Andrea Andersen

SAN MATEO, Calif. – February 14, 2019

Education.com, the leading online education destination for teachers, parents, and homeschoolers looking to help their children succeed in school, today announced the expansion of its teacher education-focused scholarship program and named three new scholarship recipients.

In addition to the existing Empowered Future Teachers Scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing careers in early education, Education.com will now offer two more scholarship opportunities for aspiring educators: the Building the Future Scholarship for low-income or minority undergraduates, and the From Classroom to Classroom Scholarship for high school seniors.

This scholarship cycle, the $10,000 Empowered Future Teachers Scholarship has been awarded to Sosseh Didarloo, a master's student at California State University, Los Angeles, pursuing a degree in child development. “My goal is to become an impactful educator and create positive changes,” Didarloo says. “I plan on using this scholarship, as well as the resources available through Education.com, to advance my education to make sure that I become a highly qualified educator for my community.”

The first two recipients of the new $5,000 Building the Future Scholarship are John Guzman and Andrea Andersen. Guzman, a junior at Evangel University in Missouri, wants to become an elementary school teacher to support children who may not have stable home lives. “I believe there is more to being a teacher than simply teaching,” he says. “It is a call to action in each student's life.”

Andersen is a junior at Arizona State University whose Building the Future Scholarship will ease her financial burden and let her focus on her goal of becoming a teacher. “This means that I can finish off my education [and] get started in the career that I love sooner than I ever imagined,” Andersen explains.

“Because Education.com’s mission is to champion children’s education, we’re always looking for new ways to support educators,” says Co-CEO Todd Schwartz. “Expanding our scholarship program will quadruple our opportunities to help aspiring teachers like Sosseh, John, and Andrea achieve their goals.”

Each year, Education.com awards $45,000 in scholarships to exemplary enrolled students working toward education-related degrees. The next application deadline is June 30.
