A Malala-Inspired Activity: Listicle Blog Posts

What You Need:

What You Do:

  1. Discuss the life of Malala Yousafzai. Review the information above, using the Malala: Nobel Laureate worksheet, or the book The Extraordinary Life of Malala Yousafzai to read more about her life.
  2. Tell your learner that a blog can be a great way to share opinions and to try to convince people of something.
  3. Brainstorm with your child a blog post they would like to write about. The topic does not have to be about girls’ rights — they can choose whatever topic speaks to them!
  4. Review types of blog listicles. Here are some examples from Education.com’s blog:
  5. Review the worksheet Blog Template: Listicles, discussing the directions and the number of tips your blogger wants to include.
  6. Ask your child to complete the graphic organizer. Answer questions and encourage your child to proofread their blog as they write down their ideas.
  7. Tell your child to type up their blog post. They can also include photos or drawings that support their opinions or suggestions.
  8. Discuss with your writer where they might publish their blog post. They could submit the copy to online websites, or post the printed blog around town or at the library.

No matter the blog’s topic, words have power! Blogging about their ideas in a listicle format is the perfect way for your writer to succinctly share their opinions with the world.
