Learning Objectives

Students will be able to identify how many letters are in their names.

The adjustment to the whole group lesson is a modification to differentiate for children who are English learners.
EL adjustments

Introduction

(5 minutes)
Which Letter?
  • Write your name on the whiteboard or chart paper.
  • Ask the students if they know how many letters are in your name.

Beginning

  • Review counting 1–20 using songs, stories, or games.
  • Allow students to count in their home language (L1).

Intermediate

  • Have students turn and talk to a partner to answer the question, "How can I count the letters in my name?"
